Florent Gac
Florent (*1978 in Bernay [Eure]) started playing piano at the age of eight at the Bernay music school. After the baccalaureate, he continued and completed his studies at the Rouen Conservatory in classical piano. He then moved to Paris, devoted himself to jazz and joined the jazz class at the CNSM (conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse).

From 2001, Florent Gac performed in various Parisian clubs where he quickly made a name for himself by playing with many musicians such as Christian Escoudé, Fabien Mary, Xavier Richardeaux, Pierre Boussaguet, Hugo Lippi, Marc Thomas, Sophie Alour, Stephane Belmondo, Damon Brown, Nicola Sabato, David Reinhardt, Gildas Boclé.

Since 2004, he has also been seen regularly on the Hammond organ in the trios of guitarists David Reinhardt, Hugo Lippi, with singer Sarah Lenka, more recently with the trio of double bassist Gildas Boclé, drummer Yoann Serra, or in various projects by saxophonist Gaël Horellou. He also participates in numerous festivals.

Based in Rouen since 2009, Florent actively participates in musical life in Normandy: He plays regularly, particularly in the trios he has formed. He also arranges for different groups, from big bands to vocal quartets. Very invested in the idea of transmission, he has taught jazz piano at the Conservatoire in Rouen since 2013, and has been responsible for the department since 2021 (PEA jazz).

Florent is in the tradition of pianists like Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan, Hampton Hawes and Red Garland, but is also interested in the more modern playing of Brad Mehldau, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. Attached to a certain tradition of jazz piano, Florent likes to work around the repertoires of pianists sometimes unfairly unknown to the general public (Ray Bryant, Mulgrew Miller, Kenny Barron, Cedar Walton). On the organ, Florent is inspired as much by the "young generation" (Larry Goldings, Sam Yahel) as by the masters of the Hammond (Jimmy Smith, Larry Young, Jack MacDuff).
