Patrice Galas
Both pianist and organist, Patrice became a professional musicien by playing in all of the major jazz clubs in Europe. He has
preformed in numerous festivals, radio broadcasts and television shows in serveral countries with his own group and/or along
side the most well-known jazzmen of our time :
Johnny Griffin, Slide Hampton, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, Benny Bailey, Chris Wood, Stephane Grapelli, Kenny Clarke, Max Roach, Hank Mobley, René Thomas, and many more, and has also joined many different groups such as Mongo Santamaria, Manu Di Bango. Patrice was one of the first jazz music teachers in both the conservatories and at the C.I.M. (Centre d'Information Musicale) in Paris. These educational experiences urged Patrice to create and write an extensive method of teaching. The ten-book series "The Modern Music", La Musique Moderne, retraces a century of music from blues to modern jazz. This work took ten years to complete. Martial Solal describes these works as a genuine encyclopedia of modern music. There is already an English translation and several other countries are particularly interested in this work. Patrice was also a collaborator in the Dictionnaire du Jazz de Robert Laffont. |
