Philippe Milanta
C (*1963 in Marseille) is a jazz pianist, componer and arranger. He studied trumpet and piano. Between 1976 and 1987, he played in regional bands in Marseille, and from 1984 onward, he also played with Lionel and Stéphane Belmondo; he occasionally accompanied Spanky Wilson and Barney Kessel as well. He then moved to Paris, where he collaborated with Gérard Badini, Guy Lafitte (1988–89), Marcel Zanini (1989), and Dany Doriz (1989–1992), and performed with Lew Tabackin, Benny Bailey, and Gene Conners; he was also part of Ellingtonmania. In 1989, he toured internationally with his own trio. Between 1991 and 1994, he led his own nonet. He then became a member of Dan Vernhette's Swing Feeling and the Four Bones. From the turn of the millennium, he played piano in the big bands of Laurent Mignard and François Laudet, as well as with Claude Tissendier's Basic Tenors. He also toured with his own band, Swing Reloaded 5, and performed as a duo with Aurélie Tropez. He has also recorded with Glenn Ferris, François Biensan, and Screamin' Jay Hawkins. In 2010, he performed an Ellington program at the Montreux Jazz Festival with Élisabeth Caumont and Luca Bonvini.
