Nils Gessinger
Nils (*1964 in Schwäbisch Hall) is a Soul/Jazz pianist, arranger, composer, producer,
and big band leader living in Hamburg.
At the age of nine, Nils had his first performance in a duo with a drummer in front of
400 people. He studied piano with Dieter Glawischnig at the Musikhochschule in Hamburg
and graduated with a diploma.
While still studying, he performed with his own formations and as a guest musician, arranger and musical director of various show and musical productions. He played as a pianist in the NDR (Norddeutscher Rundfunk) big band for studio productions, CD recordings and concerts for over ten years. In 1992 he worked on the film music for "Otto - The Love Film". In the 1990s, Nils recorded some remarkable albums with musicians such as Herb Geller, Wolfgang Schlüter, Peter Weniger, Robben Ford, Nils Landgren, and Wolfgang Haffner. In 2009, his fourth album was released. Nils has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival and other European, American, African and Asian festivals. He played, among other things, with artists such as Charly Antolini, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gerry Brown, Roger Cicero, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jane Comerford, Georg Danzer, Georgette Dee, Cornell Dupree, Joe Gallardo, Herb Geller, Wolfgang Haffner, Anna Maria Kaufmann, Hildegard Knef, Patti LaBelle, Nils Landgren, Bob Mintzer, The Platters, Inga Rumpf, Deborah Sasson, Wolfgang Schlüter, Roman Schwaller, Colin Towns, Dave Weckl, Peter Weniger, Gert Westphal, Jiggs Whigham as well as with the NDR Bigband, the NDR Radiophilharmonie and the WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln. From 1988 to 2014, Nils led the LandesJugendJazzorchester Hamburg Jazzessence. He said goodbye to the stage on 28 February 2014 after a farewell tour with 16 concerts. from Wikipedia |
