John-Paul Gard
John-Paul Gard started playing the organ at the age of 10, and in eight months made it
into the finals of the UK's Best organ player 1981. He continued to study the organ for
another 5 years and was influenced by musicians Alan Haven, Harry Stonhem, Erroll Garner,
Jerry Allen and Harold Smart.
At the age of 20, he decided to study playing the piano and gained a place at Coventry University to study a three year HND and BA in music composition. During and after college he also had regular jazz piano lessons in London with the great piano player Jason Rebello. For the final year of college, John-paul released his first CD album, "Bad Attitude", under a small independent record label, followed by a tour in the Midlands in 1995. In 1996 he formed a new trio with the legendary drummer Simon Gore, playing jazz standards which was hugely successful on the local scene that they even performed at the Albert Jazz club in Bristol. John had the privilege of gaining tuition from the keyboard ace Dave Buxton, for two years and was even offered a scholarship at Berkley College in the USA. For the last 6 years, he has been very busy performing with various musicians, which include Chris Biscoe, Art Themen, Pete King, as well as arranging and composing music on numerous projects such as Danny Sheppard Quartet, Sensorium, The Joan Davis Band and his two current projects Quaternity and Pedalmania. |
