Alice Coltrane
Alice (*1937) was the wife of John Coltrane. She started her
musical career in the bands of Yusef Lateef and Kenny Burrell.
In 1959, she went to Paris where she studied the piano with
Bud Powell. Touring with Terry Gibbs in 1962, she met John
Coltrane and married him. After his death in 1967, Alice
founded her own bands with various players like Joe Henderson,
Pharao Sanders and Carlos Ward.
Alice passed away on 13 January 2007. |
