Sullivan Fortner Sullivan (*1986 in New Orleans, LA) is a jazz musician (piano, as well as keyboards, Hammond B-3 organ, synthesizer, vocoder, celesta, percussion, and composition). He grew up in New Orleans, LA, began playing the piano at the age of four, inspired by church music. Sullivan completed his bachelor's degree at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music before going on to earn his master's degree at the Manhattan School of Music. His teachers, Jason Moran and Fred Hersch, recognized his exceptional talent early on.   In 2009, Sullivan was a member of Stefon Harris's band. He subsequently spent seven years playing in Roy Hargrove's quintet; he also supported Hargrove's saxophonist, Justin Robinson, in the recording studio. He has also worked with Nicholas Payton, Billy Hart, Gary Bartz, Marcus Belgrave, Peter Bernstein, Dave Liebman, Lage Lund, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Yotam Silberstein, Aaron Seeber, Nick Hempton, and Jacques Schwarz-Bart. He can also be heard on albums by Etienne Charles, Donald Harrison, Melissa Aldana, Bruce Harris, and Theo Croker. Paul Simon hired him for the album In the Blue Light.   In 2015, Sullivan formed his own quartet, which included saxophonist Tivon Pennicott, bassist Ameen Saleem, and drummer Jeremy Clemons. His quartet, which had already performed several times in Europe, accompanied singer Roberta Gambarini in the autumn of 2016. In 2023, he released a double album of solo recordings.   In 2015, Sullivan won the American Pianists Association's Cole Porter Fellowship in Jazz. He was named the "Rising Star" winner in the Arranger of the Year category in the 2020 DownBeat Critics Poll.   He won his first Grammy Award in 2019 as an accompanying musician on the album The Window by singer Cécile McLorin Salvant. In 2025, he received an award alongside Samara Joy for the song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Me". That same year, his own album Solo Game was nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Album. He received two additional nominations for further collaborations with McLorin Salvant and Kurt Elling, respectively. In 2026, the instrumental album Southern Nights, featuring Peter Washington and Marcus Gilmore, won an award.   from Wikipedia
