Jason Yeager
Jason (*c. 1986) is a jazz pianist and composer. He comes from a family of professors in Framingham, MA, and received his first toy piano at the age of four. He began piano lessons at seven and started writing his own pieces after only a few years. In high school, he focused on playing the piano. He is a graduate of the Double Degree Program at Tufts University and the New England Conservatory, where he studied International Relations and jazz interpretation with Fred Hersch, Danilo Pérez, Sophia Rosoff, Ran Blake, Frank Carlberg, and Jerry Bergonzi. He then earned a Master of Music degree from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, where he studied with Danilo Pérez, Doug Johnson, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Adam Cruz.
Jason then moved to New York. He has released several albums under his own name or as a co-leader. His first two albums, Ruminations (2011) and Affirmation (2014), were recorded as a trio and consisted almost entirely of his own compositions. He then released All at Onceness (2018) with saxophonist Randal Despommier and United with violinist Jason Anick, the latter being hailed as one of the best albums of 2017 and receiving a 4.5-star rating in Down Beat. In 2020, he released New Songs of Resistance (Outside In), which drew on his master's thesis research on Nueva Canción. With his wife, singer Julie Benko, he recorded Hand in Hand (2022), and with his septet and Miguel Zenón, he released his tribute to Kurt Vonnegut, Unstuck in Time: The Kurt Vonnegut Suite (2023). Jason was also a member of the Ayn Inserto Jazz Orchestra (Down the Rabbit Hole). He has also performed and recorded with artists such as Luciana Souza, Ran Blake, Sean Jones, Ben Monder, Steve Wilson, George Garzone, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Jason Palmer, Noah Preminger, and Sara Serpa. He is an assistant professor of piano at Berklee College of Music. from Wikipedia |
