José Nelson Ramirez
José (*1952) is a pianist, organist, and keyboardist. He studied at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (RUM). The university evidently had a profound influence on his entire life; in an interview, he described himself as a "músico colegial." He became particularly well-known in Puerto Rico through his performances at the Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest, leading the Heineken Jazz Jam Sessions in Mayagüez, and his collaborations with renowned Latin jazz musicians such as Dave Valentin, Giovanni Hidalgo, Humberto Ramírez.
