John Beasley
John (* 1960 in Shreveport, LA) is a jazz pianist, composer and big band leader. John, who comes from a family of musicians and turned to jazz in high school, initially learned various woodwind instruments. At just 14, he wrote a piece for the University of North Texas Jazz Band, which was then included in Stan Kenton's repertoire. John decided against studying an instrument and instead toured with Sérgio Mendes and worked part-time as a studio musician in Los Angeles.

At the age of 24, he was writing and arranging music for television shows from Paramount, Disney, and MGM. He also worked as a pianist in the studios. He was also a member of Freddie Hubbard's band for six years. In 1989, Miles Davis invited him to join his band; he later toured with Steely Dan, Carly Simon, Barbra Streisand, Baaba Maal, Queen Latifah, Christian McBride, Chaka Khan, James Brown, and John Patitucci.

Since the early 1990s, he has released albums with his own bands. His album Positootly! (2009) was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album. Subsequently, his albums were repeatedly nominated for Grammys. John can also be heard on albums by Al Jarreau, Chick Corea, Wayne Krantz, Jon Hassell, Tania Maria, Robby Ameen, Kyle Eastwood and Andreas Öberg.

As an educator, John is committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians. He conducts master classes at music schools around the world or online, and his bands often intergenerational. He has been fortunate to write commissions for youth orchestras, including Los Angeles Philharmonic's YOLA and Carnegie Hall'’s NYO. In July 2024, John was appointed President of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers (ISJAC).
