Matthias Bätzel
Matthias was born 1966 in Weimar/Germany. From 1983 till 1989 he studied the piano and the violin at the college of music "Franz Liszt" in Weimar. Since 1984 we was involved in the jazz scene where he started his professional career as a soloist and also as a member of various jazz, soul and rock bands.

From 1990 till 1993 he even could get the job as a lecturer in jazz piano at the college where he himself had learnt.

In the past years Matthias discovered his love for the Hammond organ, and started to devote himself to this instrument. Consequently he concentrated on the cooperation with bands who liked the organ to take part. The first successful cooperation was between 1994 and 1997 with "Grooveyard". In 1998, Matthias decided to found a trio of his own and found with Helmut Kagerer (guitar) and Michael Keul (drums) two equal partners. Since then, this trio developed to one of Europe's leading organ trio.

Matthias has played concerts in Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Greece, Austria and Sweden. Famous names as Houston Person, Red Holloway, Dusko Goykovich, Torsten Zwingenberger, Carla Bley and Till Brönner are among those with whom Matthias played together.
