JHM Records 3618 Matthias Bätzel, Hammond B-3 organ, piano Helmut Kagerer, guitar Michael Keul, drums Most jazz organ players have seen and still see their roots in the then revolutionary music of Jimmy Smith - and follow these roots for a life time. Only a few players set up their own style - we think of the great Larry Young and Dan Wall. One of those few to have rid himself of the stuck tradition is Matthias Bätzel. He is on his way to create a musical way of his own: Sensitive, gentle, somewhat dreamy. He tames the mighty organ, yet builds up harmonic tensions which at the end are broken up in a moderate eruption. Matthias is on his right way. A wonderful album! |
