Karl Scharnweber
Organist at the church St. Jakobi in Rostock/Germany, he got his first lessons of church music in Halle/Saale. He early started as composer for choirs and smaller ensembles, but soon discovered his love for jazz. Scharnweber played together with various jazz musicians of the former GDR. 1987, Karl developped the idea of a trio which he called "ChoralConzert". For this project he could gain Thomas Klemm, saxophone and flute, and Wolfgang Schmiedt, guitars. Already in 1988 they presented themselves during the Leverkusener Jazztage. 1991, the trio founded their own record label "KlangRäume" (spaces of sound). The trio had many concerts in Europe and the USA since then.

Karl's music shows its root in the church music. Not only that he prefer to interprete chorals, his playing the church organ is marked by steady tones, bringing the organ to a solid basement on which - the contrary - the other two of the trio can move their sound lines quickly and with lots of figures.
